Physical and chemical properties: It is made from agricultural raw materials through hydrolysis. It is a light yellow to amber transparent liquid, and its color is gradually deepened in storage until it turns brown, with bitter almond odor. It is flammable, slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether, benzene.
Applications: Furfural is an organic chemical raw material, which is mainly used in refining of lubricating oil and production of furfuryl alcohol, maleic anhydride, tetrahydrofuran and so on. It can also be used for production of medicine and veterinary medicine, furan resin, furfuryl alcohol resin, furfuryl ketone resin, etc., as well as preservatives, disinfectants, pesticides and rust removers. It is also applied in food flavoring, dyes and other industries.
